Project Description

Metropolitan Council Environmental Services (ES), operator of the metro-area wastewater collection and treatment system, will begin repairing sanitary sewers in Orono along North Shore Drive between Pine Lane and Shoreline Drive.

Work includes:

  2. Perform additional assessments on the existing pipe.
  3. Perform any necessary repairs on the pipes.
  4. Short-term closures of driveways and streets. Advance notice will be provided to any impacted properties.

This project is began in February 2024 and is anticipated to be completed in summer 2024.

Project timeline showing detour from February to August 2024. Pipe testing occurs in March. A detour started February 12 and runs through the end of July. Design occurs in April. Ordering and delivery of materials happens in May. Pipe repair is in June and July. Restoration is in August.
Why now?

As part of maintaining our interceptor pipe system, we periodically assess the condition of our pipes. A recent assessment along North Shore Drive detected significant corrosion in our pipe between French Creek Drive and Railroad Avenue. While we do not anticipate leaks, we decided to make immediate repairs due to the environmentally sensitive location of the pipe.
