(Left to right) Sharon Richards-Noel and Mark Aune meet with outreach coordinator Shoua Lee from the Central Corridor LRT Project about on-street parking changes along University Avenue with the advent of light rail. Lee showed the two of them maps of Dale and University where on-street parking will be removed to make way for a light rail station. The restaurant now shares off-street parking with neighboring businesses. Aune and his business partners will soon take over Richards-Noel’s West Indies Soul Food restaurant at Dale and University and rename it while Richards-Noel continues to operate her Minneapolis restaurant of the same name. At least 625 of the 1,150 on-street parking spots will be eliminated for mandatory elements, such as longer left turn lanes, and up to an additional 350 or so could be eliminated for highly desirable elements, such as non-signalized pedestrian crossings. Outreach coordinators are meeting this spring with business owners and members of the community, including business customers, to help determine where on-street parking should remain and where it can be eliminated.
