Final weld creates 52-mile passenger rail network for Twin Cities
The final weld connects the existing Hiawatha LRT line with its extension to a shared station with the Northstar commuter rail line in downtown Minneapolis. When Central Corridor LRT service begins in 2014, trains from St. Paul will travel on the extension to terminate at the new Minneapolis Multimodal Station by the new Minnesota Twins ballpark, increasing the network to 62 miles.
