Metropolitan Council to hold public hearing on improvement plans for regional sanitary sewer facilities in Mound and Minnetrista

ST. PAUL—Nov. 13, 2006 – The Metropolitan Council will hold a public hearing on Nov. 30 in Mound to receive comments on the Mound- and Minnetrista-area components of its draft facility plan for the Lake Minnetonka Area Regional Interceptor Improvements Project.

The recommended improvements would provide additional sanitary sewer capacity to serve growth in this part of the region and increase reliability of the Council’s facilities. Construction of the facilities would be scheduled for 2008-2012.

The public hearing will be at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 30, at Mound City Hall, 5341 Maywood Road, Mound.

Metropolitan Council Environmental Services (MCES), the Metropolitan Council division that operates the regional wastewater collection and treatment system, has drafted the facility plan, outlining alternatives studied and the resulting recommendations for improving the regional sanitary sewer system in the Lake Minnetonka area. Mound- and Minnetrista-area recommendations include:

  • Closing two pumping stations (located at Manchester Road and Cambridge Lane and at Wilshire Boulevard and Bradford Lane) and combining their functions into a new pumping station to be constructed near Swenson Park (on Manchester Road). Constructing new gravity interceptor sewers and force main interceptor sewers to connect existing facilities with the new combined pumping station.

  • Closing the interim pumping station at Commerce Boulevard and Shoreline Drive, and rehabilitating the existing pumping station and maintenance facility on Westedge Boulevard near Setter Circle. Constructing a new gravity interceptor sewer from the interim pumping station site west along the railroad corridor on the north side of Langdon Lake, then south along Westedge Boulevard to the rehabilitated pumping station. Constructing a new force main interceptor sewer from the rehabilitated pumping station south along Westedge Boulevard and County Road 44 to the Lake Minnetonka Regional Park north of Highway 7.
