ST. PAUL—Jan. 25, 2006—Rep. Dennis Ozment (R-Rosemount) gets high marks from the Metropolitan Council for regional leadership. The Council, at its Jan. 25 meeting, honored the state legislator with a Regional Leadership Award for “Outstanding leadership in studying the Twin Cities Metropolitan Area’s drinking water supply.”
“Dennis was instrumental in helping to pass legislation critical to maintaining the health and vitality of the growing Twin Cities area,” said Council Chair Peter Bell. “Legislation that allows the Council to evaluate water supply in the metro area--and the ability of existing supply to meet growth needs. The legislation also requires the Council to develop a regional plan for efficient water use.
“Dennis sees the big picture and recognizes the role of regional solutions to local community issues and concerns. He is, indeed, a respected, renowned friend and ally to the Council and the region.”
Rep. Ozment serves as Chair of the Agriculture, Environment and Natural Resources Finance Committee and is a member of the committees on Agriculture and Rural Development; Environment and Natural Resources; Rules and Legislative Administration; Ways and Means.
The Metropolitan Council is the regional planning organization for the seven-county Twin Cities metropolitan area. The Council runs the regional bus and light rail system, collects and treats wastewater, coordinates regional water resources, plans regional parks and administers funds that provide housing opportunities for low- and moderate income individuals and families. Council board members are appointed by and serve at the pleasure of the Minnesota Governor.
