Regional Development 2030 Forecasts Framework The Council periodically makes forecasts of population, households and employment for each city and township in the seven-county metropolitan area. These forecasts were prepared for the Council's Regional Development Framework 2030, adopted January 14, 2004. They reflect updates based on comments from local units of government from the previous Council forecasts published in 2002. These forecasts use the corrected 2000 Census data as a base for population and household forecasts and "covered" employment for 2000 from the State Department of Employment and Economic Development for the employment forecast base. These forecasts were prepared using the Council's 2000 land use inventory, planned land use data from the comprehensive plans of cities and as noted above recent review by cities and townships. reflecting any changes in their growth and development expectations. The Council will continue to monitor development and revise the forecasts in conjunction with local governments for the next round of comprehensive plan updates, due in 2008.

Metropolitan Council prepares local population and households estimates for the Twin Cities seven-county area. These estimates are the official population and household estimates for State government purposes (Minnesota Statutes 473.24, revised June 2005). The State Demographer's Office produces population and households for the other 80 counties in Minnesota. These estimates are listed on the State Demographer's website.
