The Metropolitan Council receives external funding from federal sources to support transit in the Twin Cities area. The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) provides the largest portion of the funds that support locally planned, constructed and operated public transportation systems. The Council is responsible for managing the transit-related projects supported by these funds, in accordance with federal requirements.
Some projects are implemented by subrecipients (or subgrantees) through FTA financial assistance awarded by the Council. Managing Federally Funded Projects: A Project Manager's Guide (pdf) provides subrecipients and Council project staff with guidelines on all aspects of the grant process, from initial application through invoicing and reporting requirements.
The grants management guide includes forms and contact information needed to apply for and manage federally funded grant projects.
For an overview of federal grants management at the Council, see a Summary of Grant Process and Activity (pdf). See also the Requirements for Federal Transit Grantees and Subrecipients (pdf).
