The 2005 Minnesota State Legislature passed a measure that directs the Metropolitan Council to carry out planning activities addressing the water supply needs of the Twin Cities Metropolitan Area. To assist the Council in its planning activities the legislation establishes a Metropolitan Area Water Supply Advisory Committee.
The Advisory Committee met monthly from January through November 2006, during the initial phase of water supply planning activities. At the meetings, the committee discussed a variety of topics including resource availability, water conservation, safety and security, financing, and system operations. The Committee solicited stakeholder input throughout the process, and will continue to provide input on various issues through the next steps of water supply planning activities (2007-2008), culminating in the preparation of the metropolitan area master water supply plan.
