MCES maintains eight wastewater treatment plants, 550 miles of interceptor sewers (i.e., large sanitary sewer pipes, which transport wastewater from one or more communities to a MCES treatment plant), and coordinates river, stream and lake water quality monitoring in the Twin Cities metropolitan area.
