Energy Conservation + Renewable Energy
Energy use is a major expense for Environmental Services (ES)--costing approximately $17 million per year. Considerable economic and environmental benefits can be attained through energy conservation and increased use of renewable energy.
In 2007 a goal was established for the ES to reduce the amount of purchased energy by 15 percent through 2010. Currently, the division has achieved 66 percent of the goal and is on schedule to meet the final goal.
Below are ways ES has responded to the challenge which has the dual benefit of reducing air emissions like carbon dioxide and lowering costs to the rate payers.
