| Project #8042, Mpls. Interceptor 1-MN-303 | |
Description: The project consists of patching the bands; placing a concrete invert for the storm sewer (upper partition); and installing cured-in-place-pipe (CIPP) in the sanitary sewer interceptor (lower partition). The sag between MH17 and 16 will be repaired by replacing approximately 225 ft. of 36- inch RCP. |
Interceptor 1-MN-303 is a sanitary sewer pipe constructed inside of a former combined sewer system. In this partitioned sewer, the storm water is conveyed in the top section and the sanitary flow in the bottom section. The MCES is the owner of both pipes. The City of Minneapolis operates the storm sewer (upper partition). The sanitary sewer pipe consists of 8-foot lengths sections of corrugated metal pipe connected by metal closure bands at the joints. The metal closure bands have torn off at numerous locations, exposing top of the sanitary sewer pipe and allowing the storm water to get into the MCES system. There are 35 straps in need of repair; the gaps vary between 1 and 6 inches in width over a total distance of approximately 2,200 feet. In addition there is a sag between MH17 and MH16.
