2008 - 2017 Capital Improvement Program

Project #8034, Brooklyn Park Interceptor System Rehab.

Description:

This project consists of the rehabilitation of the interceptor and lift station. The wet well concrete surfaces will be rehabilitated to render them structurally sound and the station's damaged equipment will be repaired or replaced. Approximately seven miles of the interceptor will be lined using cured-in-place pipe technology.

Purpose and Justification:

Facility inspection has revealed moderate to severe hydrogen sulfide corrosion damage within the lift station wet well. The further loss of concrete wall and slab material will expose structural reinforcement and may lead to structural collapse and the failure of the lift station. This will result in wastewater spills to the environment and to local residential basements. Televising of the interceptor has revealed evidence of moderate to severe corrosion. Hydrogen sulfide, evident in this line for a number of years, has deteriorated the line over time. If the interceptor fails, sink holes and possible back-ups with threats to public safety and health will occur.
