Federal grant provides more bus service linking people with jobs

A federal grant is making it possible to expand some bus service in the northwest metro, east metro and Bloomington.

Funding for the service improvements comes from a federal Job Access and Reverse Commute (JARC) grant, which supports transportation services that improve access to employment opportunities for lower-income residents.

Metro Transit Route 540 has been extended to Normandale Office Park in Bloomington on weekdays, providing more access to jobs in the south metro.

Metro Transit Route 219, between Maplewood Mall and Sun Ray Shopping Center in St. Paul, will offer more service and greater frequency of service.

Metro Transit Route 721 in the northwest metro is now providing evening and weekend service.

The service enhancements are part of a demonstration project, lasting at least through September 2009.
