New housing in the LRT corridor
Several of the projects in the corridor incorporate transit-oriented design, combining access to light rail with housing and neighborhood or retail destinations.
The Franklin Station Townhomes are in the Phillips neighborhood, near the light-rail line.
- Franklin Station Townhouses, constructed by the Powderhorn Residents Group at the Village in Phillips, and the Many Rivers apartment buildings, developed by the American Indian Housing Corporation/CDC, began changing the faces of their neighborhoods, alongside newly refurbished public amenities like the 3rd Precinct Police Station and the Franklin Avenue Public Library.
- Minnehaha Place Condominiums added 90 units, just two blocks from the 50th Street station, at purchase prices ranging from $131,000 to $231,000.
- Near the 46th Street Station, 61 rental units share their four-story Oaks Hiawatha Station building with 3,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space, which includes a print and copy shop.
- Tillie’s Bean coffee shop occupies the ground floor of Hiawatha Square, a 16-unit condominium project near the 38th Street station. Forty-five condominiums were added nearby with the construction of Hiawatha Court, and the 38th Street Flats will offer 42 residences.
- The 267-unit Reflections Condominiums in Bloomington offers two 16-story towers, with units priced from $180,000 to over $700,000. The “green development” project, scheduled for completion in July 2006, incorporates environmentally sensitive design and construction.
- Nearby, Bloomington Central Station will be located on the Health Partners Corporate campus. The project includes 1,000 residential units, a full-service hotel, and office and retail space. A walking trail and open space are planned, as well as a two-acre park adjacent to the LRT station.
