Learn A New Way to Move

Metro Transit launches ad campaign

Maybe it’s back-flips. Maybe it’s a dance step. However you get around, Metro Transit wants to show you a New Way to Move.

“There are choices about how we get from here to there,” said Metro Transit General Manager Brian Lamb. “Choices other than driving alone in the car and that’s what our new advertising campaign is all about.”

The ad campaign includes a website — bustrainrideshare.org — which features an interactive notebook with information and tips on using transit.

On Aug. 30, Metro Transit launches its first TV ad campaign in four years, designed to get metro area residents thinking about the range of transit services available.

“We want to make people more aware of the options available to them — whether it’s a bus, the train or ride sharing — and that they work together as an integrated system,” said Lamb. “We hope this will prompt more people to put Metro Transit at the top of their list of choices.”

“It’s really a very fun and hip campaign,” said Metro Transit Marketing Manager Bruce Howard. “It gives our Metro Transit brand more personality — easy, approachable, confident.”

The campaign includes two television spots featuring people using unusual ways of getting around. A man moves down the street doing the “worm dance.” A woman gets around St. Paul by doing flips.

The TV ads will air during popular programs like the Vikings-Packers game and Grey’s Anatomy, for example. The campaign also includes a website sharing fun facts and how-to-ride information at www.bustrainrideshare.org, billboards, bus side ads, and on-line advertising.

Once the campaign ends in December, Metro Transit will measure how well it helped to build name recognition, position the agency as a resource providing a variety travel options, and contribute to Metro Transit’s ridership goal for 2006.

“We’ve set our sites on 71 million rides this year,” said Lamb. “I’m confident we’ll achieve that goal.”
