Parks Map

The updated parks map is a necessity for residents interested in visiting and making the most of their experiences at regional parks and trails.

In public opinion surveys, residents of the Twin Cities metropolitan area regularly say what they prize most about this region is its abundant parks, trails and natural areas.

The Metropolitan Council has published a new map showing the area’s 49 regional parks and park reserves, 29 regional trails and six special recreational areas.  The new map also lists the major recreational opportunities available at each park, such as picnicking, swimming, boating, fishing, camping and horse trails, as well as winter activities.

In addition, the colorful map includes a list of 40 fun things to do at various regional parks – ranging from scuba diving at Square Lake to star gazing at Baylor Park.

“Our regional parks and trails are the crown jewels of this metropolitan area,” said Council Chair Peter Bell. “Our new parks map provides a handy guide to discover and enjoy these regional treasures.”

The Council works in partnership with 10 local parks agencies to plan, develop and maintain the 53,000-acre system of regional parks and trails. In addition to providing opportunities for active recreation, they protect forests, lakes, wetlands and native prairies for future generations.

Copies of the new map are available at many of the area’s regional parks, county libraries and Metro Transit stores. Copies also may be obtained by contacting the Met Council’s Data Center by phone at 651-602-1140 or by e-mail at data.center@metc.state.mn.us .
