Geocaching attracts a wide variety of participants with a variety of experiences and goals. Some enjoy the numbers aspect of the game, like finding or hiding as many geocaches as possible in as many places as possible. More advanced cachers have developed their own vocabulary. Here are some of the primary terms:

- DNF – Did Not Find.
- Trackables – Items that are moved from cache to cache and tracked.
- Travel Bugs – ID tags attached to specific items.
- Geocoins – Specially minted for caching, some with a shape or number.
- Puzzle Caches – A cache that can only be found by solving a small puzzle.
- Master Cacher – Advanced cachers who only use maps but no GPS receiver to find a cache.
The geocaching community has also developed guidelines about how to prepare, place and list a cache. Visit www.geocaching.com for all the details.
