The Metropolitan Council began streaming video of its meetings online in May.
Video of Council meetings is offered live at their regular time – 4 p.m. on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month. In addition, meetings will be archived for later viewing on demand and will be indexed so users can access the video on any agenda item of interest to them.
“Our Council has placed a high priority on being open and transparent in our decision-making, and being accountable for results,” said Council Chair Peter Bell. “Video streaming provides increased access to the general public as well as to key stakeholder groups, such as local officials, legislators, developers and advocacy groups.”
The first live showing of a Council meeting was May 14. Video of several previous Council meetings have been archived, and will be available on demand. In addition, the Council’s website will provide access to special videos such as the 2008 State of the Region event and the 30-minute documentary on the Council’s history that was produced in collaboration with Twin Cities Public Television.
Later this year, the Council will begin providing live and on-demand video of Council committee meetings as well. The video of each meeting will be accompanied by the meeting agenda, and by web links to the staff and committee reports for each business item.
The Council joins a number of local governments in the Twin Cities area that stream video of its meetings through Granicus, Inc. The San Francisco-based firm serves more than 250 units of government in 28 states.
Video of Met Council meetings can be accessed from a quick link on right side of the Council’s homepage, as well as from the Council's meetings web page.
