The 2000 Census counted 2,642,062 people and 1,021,459 households in the Twin Cities 7-County Metropolitan area - a growth of 353,3333 in population and 145,955 households.

These figures are based on the final census adjusted counts. They reflect minor changes in 12 Twin Cities 7-County Metro Area cities. The household changes were calculated from housing unit change and occupancy rate data from the affected city. These figures will show up only in Census counts and not in any of the data showing population and housing characteristics.

The growth of 353,000 people was the largest in the region's history, 4,000 more than were added in the 1960s. The rate of growth, 15.4%, was up slightly from the 15.3% rate experienced in 1980s, but well below the
