Lynette Wittsack was appointed to the Metropolitan Council by Governor Tim Pawlenty in 2003 and reappointed in 2007. Wittsack represents District 8, which includes the eastern portion of Minneapolis and the entire City of St. Anthony.
She has a bachelor’s degree in design from the University of Minnesota and a master’s degree in international management from the University of St. Thomas. From 1992 to 2000 she was the co-owner of Les Work, Inc., a small business which provided office space, secretarial and business-support services. From 1983 to 1992, she worked for Northwest Airlines, her last position as manager of distribution systems for the Pacific region, living in Tokyo.
Wittsack is a member of the Council’s Environmental Services Committee, vice chair of the Management Committee and chair of the Audit Committee. “The Metropolitan Council has a budget of $650 million and employs about 3,600 people,” said Wittsack.
“Over the past three decades, we’ve made enormous investments in the infrastructure that serves the region. Environmental Services, which constructs and maintains almost two-thirds of the Council’s investment in regional facilities, anticipates spending more than $1.1 billion over the next 10 years to maintain existing assets and expand the wastewater system to serve new growth.”
“Our goal is to maintain our existing investments and ensure that we are well positioned to accommodate the 3.6 million people who will live in the metro area in 2030,” she added. Wittsack said she sought a seat on the Council because she supports Governor Pawlenty’s philosophy for a more balanced approach in the delivery of government services. She believes we are at a pivotal time in history where it’s critical to consider new strategies and mechanisms for achieving regional goals.
Lynette is a stay-at-home mom with three children. She volunteers regularly at their school and church. Additionally, Lynette is a Girl Scout troop leader and treasurer for her son’s Cub Scout pack. She is also on the board of directors for the Lake Miltona Association, which engages lake shore owners on lake quality issues and development pressures. Wittsack is the treasurer for her husband’s campaign committee, Hennepin County Commissioner Mark Stenglein. She and Mark live in the Windom Park neighborhood of Minneapolis.
