Georgeanne Hilker was appointed to the Metropolitan Council by Governor Tim Pawlenty in 2003 and reappointed in 2007. Hilker represents District 11, which includes the City of Columbus, Centerville, and Lino Lakes in Anoka County; White Bear Lake, White Bear Township, Vadnais Heights, Gem Lake, Little Canada, North St. Paul, and Maplewood in Ramsey County; and Hugo, Oakdale, and Landfall in Washington County.
Hilker is Special Assistant to the Director of the Minnesota Office of Energy Security focused on Clean Energy Commercial Opportunities. Previously, she was Assistant to the Commissioner of Iron Range Resources.
She sought a seat on the Council because of her “longstanding interest in urban and regional planning,” she said. “I grew up in the Twin Cities and have watched the Twin Cities grow up around me. Serving on the Council is a way to have some input into how this region develops.”
Hilker serves on the Council’s Transportation and Community Development Committees. “The biggest challenges the Council faces is planning for efficient, orderly growth in the region and finding cost-effective ways to move people in and around the region,” Hilker said.
She is a former board member of the Minnesota Community Foundation and a former member of the White Bear Lake Parks Advisory Commission, and has served on several boards and committees for Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Minneapolis-St. Paul. She has a B.A. in marketing and sociology from the University of Minnesota, and an M.B.A. in marketing and communications from the University of St. Thomas.
Hilker and her husband, Marcus, have two grown children and live in White Bear Lake, where they enjoy many outdoor activities. To contact Hilker, you may call 651-426-1750 or e-mail: georgie.hilker@metc.state.mn.us
