Kirstin Sersland Beach was appointed to the Metropolitan Council by Governor Tim Pawlenty in 2007. She represents District 14, which includes the area of St. Paul west of Interstate 35E.
Beach is the senior executive assistant to the chief financial officer at Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. Prior to joining Thrivent in 2002, she worked with her husband in their family business dealing primarily in product development, marketing and licensing.
Active in local politics, Beach has served as a Republican Party officer and delegate, and ran unsuccessfully for the Minnesota House in 2004 and 2006. She serves as a church council member and Bible study leader at Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church, as a member of the child care committee for St. Paul’s Childhood Center and as a board member of the Center for Parental Responsibility.
On the Metropolitan Council, Beach serves on the Transportation and Environment Committees. She also is co-chair of the Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC) for the Central Corridor Light Rail Transit project.
A native of Salt Lake City, Beach earned her bachelor’s degree in political science at Gustavus Adolphus College. She resides in the west Como area of St. Paul with her husband and daughter.
