Housing Funding & Finance

The Council awards funds to cities for expanding affordable housing opportunities through its Livable Communities program. Funds for the program come from the Council’s property tax levies authorized by state law.

Metro HRA

The Metro HRA administers rent assistance programs serving more than 6,700 households. The programs are primarily federally funded, the largest being the Section 8 program. The Council’s Metro HRA uses the federal Section 8 Housing Choice program to provide vouchers to eligible households, who pay a percentage  of their incomes for rent, with Metro HRA paying the remainder within established fair-market rent guidelines. Corridors of Opportunity

The Corridors of Opportunity initiative worked with communities and neighborhoods to provide funds for more housing close to rail and transit that is affordable and energy efficient with funding from two national sources.

The initiative has ended but its work continues through the Partnership for Regional Opportunity
