Metropolitan Wastewater Treatment Plant

Located on the Mississippi River in St. Paul, the Metro Plant is the largest wastewater treatment facility in Minnesota.

When it opened in 1938, it was the first plant in a metropolitan area on the Mississippi River. Today it is among the nation's largest.

The plant has an excellent environmental record and regularly earns state and national awards for operational excellence. In 2008, the Metro Plant won the National Association of Clean Water Agencies (NACWA) Peak Performance Award. In addition, the Metro Plant's Solids Management has won Governor's MnGreat Award for pollution protection (2007), Minnesota Chapter of Public Works Association Project of the Year Award (2006), NACWA National Environmental Achievement Award/Operations Category (2006).
