| Project #8023, Northeast Interceptor Improvements | |
Description: The Northeast Interceptor System Improvements Project will provide additional capacity to the northeast metropolitan service area. This service area can be described as all areas tributary to the Metropolitan WWTP through the Forest Lake (70-29), White Bear Township (69-01), Vadnais Heights (VH- 422), Little Canada (71-32) & LC-421, Gervais Lake (81-51), Upper Beltline (71-22), Middle (85-66-370) and Lower (77-05) Beltline interceptors. The Northeast Interceptor System extends north to the developing communities of Forest Lake, Hugo, Centerville, Lino Lakes, White Bear Township, White Bear Lake, and North Oaks. |
The project includes facility planning for the entire system along with anticipated design and construction of improvements to improve capacity and permit continued development. Projects defined to date include: a peak flow pump station in White Bear Township; a forcemain to divert flow from a capacity restricted area of the 69-01 Interceptor in White Bear Township to the Upper Beltline (71-22) in White Bear Lake; a parallel interceptor to improve capacity south of lift station L3 in White Bear Township; and improvements to lift stations L1, L2, and L3. A new express relief interceptor is needed to supplement the capacity of the Upper (71-22) and Middle (85-66-370) Beltline interceptors in Maplewood and St. Paul to meet future service needs. Also included in the project are improvements to Interceptor 1-WL-417 and an extension to Lino Lakes.
Growth in the developing communities (primarily Forest Lake, Hugo, Centerville, Lino Lakes, and White Bear Township) as well as infill development from all tributary communities is anticipated to exceed the capacity of the Northeast Interceptor System. The capacity issues involve the entire northeast corridor; and is influenced by growth as well as significant inflow and infiltration. The peak flow pumping station will convey flow by forcemain from the Forest Lake Interceptor (MSB 7029) to the Beltline Interceptor (MSB 7122). The peak flow pumping station became operational in September, 2008.
The Lino Lakes Extension project provides for construction of approximately 5,000 feet of gravity interceptor sewer and appurtenances to be located within County Road No. 8 right-of-way in the City of Hugo. The work was performed in conjunction with County roadway improvements. This allowed for efficient utilization of public funds and minimized construction cost, project duration, and traffic disruption to the public.
