American Community Survey

Over the past few years, the Census Bureau has made the switch from providing detailed, local demographics at 10-year intervals to providing detailed, local demographics every year (with a 1-2 year delay). The Census Bureau’s American Community Survey (ACS) provides detailed demographic and housing statistics based on survey data that are annually refreshed.

Guidance on comparing ACS 2006 data to Census 2000 data may be useful to audiences familiar with Census long-form data. A PowerPoint presentation from the Census Bureau details data products and new features of the American Community Survey.

Statistical tables from ACS 2006 were released during August-October 2007 and are packaged for different geographic areas:

• United States
• Minnesota
• Minneapolis-St. Paul-Bloomington 13-county Metro Area
• Minneapolis-St. Paul-Bloomington Urbanized Area

• Anoka County
• Carver County
• Dakota County
