American Community Survey
Over the past few years, the Census Bureau has made the switch from providing detailed, local demographics at 10-year intervals to providing detailed, local demographics
every year (with a 1 year delay). The Census Bureau’s
American Community Survey (ACS) provides demographic and housing statistics based on survey data that are annually refreshed.
Guidance on comparing ACS data to Census 2000 data may be useful to audiences familiar with Census long-form data.
A PowerPoint presentation from the Census Bureau details data products and new features of the American Community Survey.
Statistical tables from
ACS 2008 were released September 22, 2009, for states, metropolitan areas, counties and cities with over 65,000 population. Also
3-Year Average tables were released October 27, 2009, for all areas with over 20,000 population; this is intended to allow greater geographic detail.
